Where are all the Good Shepherds? 

In an era of “woke Jesus”, as in, “He gets you”, (wink and smile gently as you say this), we are struggling to find the good shepherds in the church who will speak the unedited Word of God without apology. Of course, I know several incredible pastors, I wish there were more. The pretend leaders are afraid to offend longstanding members, especially the good tithers who don’t want any conviction being hurled at them.  The faithful givers also don’t want to be told that something has gone wrong with the overall discernment of Christians when they lined up their families to get the vaccines. God forbid if the pastor brings up the sheer psychosis of cutting a kid’s sex organs off (gasp, “Why is he talking about this in church?”).  I can’t help wondering if more pastors were courageous at this hour, would we be in a different place?   

Recently, Pastor Mark Driscoll in the USA, at a huge men’s conference, took exception to the poll-dancing, sword-eating stripper who took his shirt off in a provocative manner, in front of a stadium full of dudes who were NOT expecting this and probably very disturbed. I was trying to picture the reaction of any of the men in my life, my husband, my dad, my brother, my sons, my uncles, pastors, friends and loved ones…if they were attending a Christian men’s gathering with some guy flinging his shirt off and climbing a poll…(help me not to throw up). The men I know would have given a standing ovation to Driscoll for calling it out.  The lead pastor of the men’s event raised his voice to tell Pastor Mark to get off the stage for confronting this publicly instead of speaking with him privately about it. I think they’ve made up now, all is well.  My question is, when satan’s perversity has been unleashed on a poll at your church event, might that have been the right moment to raise your voice and shut it down?   

We are struggling against evil like never before because our public sphere is lacking true leaders. I am reminded of the Gospel of John 10:11-15 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep."  

What wolves do the shepherds see coming? Will they expose them or remain silent?
